How To Detect Your Leadership Blind Spots [Digital Assessment]

I felt pretty good about myself – slightly cocky, even – until I heard my husband explaining my reaction to the way the dishwasher was loaded to our couple’s therapist.

With a sheepish smile, I sank lower in my chair. If I were a blusher, my cheeks would have turned as pink as my Kate Spade reading glasses.

Having another person witness my behavior, even through story, brought more awareness to my reactions – and the underlying triggers that we soon explored in that counseling session.

Working with a coach or therapist is like holding a mirror up to ourselves and seeing what’s really there (vs. what we imagine for ourselves on our best day). These mirror experiences and feedback are essential for us to be the influential leaders we aspire to be at work + home. If we don’t see our blind spots, how can we improve or overcome them?

This gets harder and harder the more we move up the ladder at work. Our direct reports are less likely to be honest with us (or sometimes even to offer a different opinion than us) because, well, their very livelihood is at stake should we backlash against their honesty. We can often find ourselves surrounded by “Yes” men and women, which means:

We stop growing.

We stop learning.

We stop getting better. 🥀

We might even be making life miserable for those who work or live with us, without even knowing it.

This goes against all that I stand for, so I made a simple tool for you to hold a mirror up to yourself that doesn’t have to involve another human.

It’s our new and improved Digital EQ Self-Assessment. This assessment is something I offer the leadership teams and coaching clients who work with me, but I’m sharing it now with you so that you can gauge your EQ leadership skills. (And to say thank you for being a loyal newsletter reader!)
