How To Make Time For Self-Care

Self-care is not about spending a day at the spa or taking a vacation – though I love both of these activities!

You don’t need an entire day or even a whole afternoon free in order to fill your self-care bucket.

Self-care is about how you approach every decision you make throughout the day. It’s about the value and worth you give to your time, your health, and your dreams. It doesn’t happen in big chunks of time a couple of times a week; it happens moment to moment as you choose to love yourself and align with your highest purpose on this planet.

Self-care can be done by prioritizing little moments of every day and consistently making choices that make you feel good:

  • 10 minutes to meditate in the morning
  • 3 minutes to stare at the star-filled night sky
  • 15 seconds to choose a coffee mug you love or an outfit for work that makes you feel comfortable and confident
  • 5 minutes to call a friend when you are lonely
  • 15 minutes of technology-free quiet time for yourself after dinner
  • 20 minutes to work out even though you were hoping for a 60-minute sweat sesh
  • 5 seconds to delete time-sucking and wellness-draining news and social media apps off your phone
  • 1 minute of deep breaths between meetings or to transition from work to home
  • 30 seconds to put some music on while you do the dishes
  • 2 minutes to ask for help or deny a request that’s not in line with your values

By taking a small amount of time to care for yourself, you are going to create more energy and time for yourself. So I don’t want to hear the “I don’t have time for self-care” excuse anymore!

Right now, put down your phone, ask yourself, “What will make me feel good right now?” (For long-term success, not short-term gratification!) Then go do it.
