“Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

Favorite JD Attribute & Why:

#1 Love For Our Mission, Clients & Team. This is why I get out of bed every morning.

Answer This:

Q: What’s the strangest job you’ve ever had?

A: My first job was as a corn detasseler in the one-stoplight Minnesota farming town I grew up in.

Favorite Quote:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.”

Dakota Rhoad

Executive Assistant

Bio:

Dakota joined our team in March 2022 and serves as JD’s Executive Assistant. She earned a degree in Wildlife Biology in 2016, but headed in a different life direction after many-a-animal-undertakings. She traveled overseas and around the US for about 3 years, which is where her real personal growth journey began – hence her relationship with Sara and Joy Discovered! She is a starry-eyed entrepreneur in the making with an underlying passion for environmentalism, but loves aiding in the mission of Joy Discovered – to help as many people and leaders towards balance and success as possible.

Favorite Team JD Attribute & Why:

#3 Emotional Intelligence. As you might guess, personal development is a (super cool) part of working for an emotional intelligence expert.

I had never heard of emotional intelligence before working for Joy Discovered, but had spent a great deal of time thinking about what makes people “great”.

It seemed like such a far-off idea, but having worked with Sara and been an audience member of hers myself, ‘greatness’ doesn’t seem so far out of reach. And that’s because of this concept of emotional intelligence – how it’s broken down into steps (doable ones) that build upon themselves until hey! you’re at the top of the ladder.

Answer This:

Q: If you could pick a TV show or book to be your life, what show would it be?

A: I’d be Jeff Probst, the host of Survivor. But as me, not him.

Favorite JD Attribute & Why:

#5: Courage. Courage is one of the most important traits in any leader. It is important to be courageous enough to take risks but also courageous enough to admit when you are wrong.

As a leader, you must also encourage your team members to be courageous. By encouraging them to take chances, you will allow them to grow as individuals and as leaders themselves. When you
encourage your team members’ courage, they will feel more confident in their work and more motivated to succeed in their jobs.

Answer This:

Q: What did you want to be when you were 8 years old?

A: When I was 8, I wanted to be a teacher.

I remember being so excited about the idea of getting up in front of a classroom and sharing my
knowledge with others. It was something that just felt right for me—I loved the idea of helping people learn, and making connections between ideas.

Fast forward to now, and here I am: still teaching people! But not in a classroom—I’m doing it through bookkeeping and financial management.

I help business owners get the most out of their financial investments by teaching them how to make good financial decisions—the kind that will result in growth over time—and helping them build strong relationships with their customers so they can keep coming back again and again.
