The Importance Of Always Knowing Which Key Skills You Are Developing

This September I will be studying with Dr. Shefali Tsabury for five months working towards my Conscious Parenting Method (CPM) certification from her Conscious Coaching Institute. Last month I received the news that I was accepted into her program and wanted to share with you!

Dr. Shefali is one of my favorite parenting experts and wisdom teachers. Two of her books, The Conscious Parent and The Awakened Family, have greatly shaped the way I parent and also how I coach my clients.

Her teachings align so well with my belief that good parenting isn’t about proper discipline or having the right tools to control our children. Instead, effective parenting is about taking care of the difficulties from our own childhood, and waking up to the workings of our mind and ego, so that we can be present with our children and a model of love, purpose, and connection.

In doing so, we allow our children’s perfect wholeness and authenticity to shine through, rather than dimming their light. This is what I strive for with my boys, and what the women I work with want to create for themselves and their children as well.

I am super excited to have additional teachings and skills to complement my The Mindful Balanced Life coaching program (that already dives into how we personally show up in the world, so we can create more success in our relationships, families, careers, and well-being). And to learn more about how to be the best mom I can be for my two little guys I love so much.

What are the 3 – 4 key skills you are developing right now?

One of my mentors, Brendon Burchard, taught me that we should always know exactly what personal and professional skills we are working on. And that we should always have an action plan to develop those areas within us in order to achieve high performance.

At the beginning of the year, I identified these four areas to develop for myself:
1. Book publishing
2. Public speaking
3. Leadership
4. Enhanced coaching skills

I chose these areas because they align with bigger goals I have for myself and help fill in the blanks to get me there.

Because these skills are front of mind always, it’s easy for me to decide what books to read, which coaches to work with or events to attend, and how I want to spend my time. It gives me a greater sense of purpose and helps me feel ease in accomplishing my big goals that take longer, but are moving forward one little step at a time.

It’s why when I got the email about Dr. Shefali’s next CPM cohort opening up (at the exact moment I was re-listening to a part in The Awakened Family that I wanted to understand more deeply), it was easy for me to choose to invest in this aspect of myself.

I check in on how my key skills are developing monthly, and assess whether it’s time to remove or add something new to the list, or what additional actions steps I should be taking.

So again, I ask you: What are the 3 – 4 key skills you are developing for yourself right now?

How are you accomplishing this?

Cheers to your growth!
